Post 6: How can your mayor make the world a better place?

 


The Chemistry and Pharmacy career has a wide range of possibilities to contribute to the world.

From access to primary care in localities, to the development of technology in the manufacture of new drugs that can help people who had no treatment or cure for their diseases. But, the area that I love the most and where I believe I could make a great contribution, is science and research.

I love working on creating new knowledge that can contribute to a better quality of life for people, as well as disseminating knowledge and putting it at the service of the community. 


This post reminds me of my last work in a lab, before the pandemic, where a curcuminoid was synthesized and attached to a gold nanorod to produce a fluorescence effect to enable early detection of aggregates of the beta amyloid peptide involved in Alzheimer's disease, which is crucial for testing potential new treatments.

I collaborated in a small part, performing the purification of the curcuminoids CRANAD-2 and CRANAD-54, but I hope to make more significant contributions in the future.

  I have always been very fond of plants. When we went to the Homecenter with my parents I always liked to go to the gardening part and choose a plant. One day, when I was about 8 years old we went to this store, but this time I wanted a bonsai, not knowing that these little trees were so expensive, obviously my parents said they could not buy it, they showed me beautiful flowers and other types of plants but I wanted that one and only that one. I wanted to have one so much that I stayed next to it as a protest until they bought it for me haha, my parents went to buy things they needed for the house and I was waiting for them to come for me, until at one point I saw a tall man with a blue shirt coming, just like my dad, and I went to the store to buy it, and I went running, I threw the sleeve of his shirt and started to make a tantrum so that he would buy me the bonsai, I still remember that I shouted "DAD BUY ME A BONSAI" then I looked up and it was not him, hahahaha I was v

Post 7: An expert / person in your field that you admire

 Minna Huotilainen born September 12, 1968 is a Finnish professor and brain researcher. Huotilainen applies the latest findings in neuroscience, especially to the development of working life. She is known for her ability to popularize scientific knowledge. She is a woman I admire for her work and publications. She is truly brilliant, as well as an example to follow as a science popularizer. I had the opportunity to meet her in 2018 at a conference on women and science given at the Faculty of Science.  Here is a quote from that talk: "In Finland there are many female students studying scientific disciplines and we have female academics in engineering, medicine and other knowledge, because there has been a huge investment in basic education to advance in this area. Post 5: Your future job

If there is one thing I am passionate about it is research, I was previously studying to be a scientist, but I got pregnant before finishing my degree, and with a baby the path to a PhD would be more difficult.   When I was in my 3rd year I had to rethink my professional future and opt for a career with better economic expectations, but at the same time related to what I like, science...  The career of chemistry and pharmacy was perfect and now I am learning new activities in which I am good at and I didn't know it. I have loved pharmaceutical marketing, and I hope to be able to do a future internship in this, it is the first job I see myself related to, as it is dynamic, fun and challenging, plus I would have a work schedule that will allow me to reconcile family life.  The above is my nearest goal, since I do not plan to die without developing myself in what I love the most and my dream job, which is research.
